GAMES / SHADOWS

Games/Shadows is a work commissioned by the dutch clarinetist Theo Gerris. 

His passion for abstract art has motivated me to compose this piece where I describe a fictitious primitive ritual inspired by three paintings by the American painter Jackson Pollock. This fiction intertwines the three paintings (Guardians of the Secret, Composition with Oval Forms and The Flame) in a discursive way, relating to this magical ritual of fire. 

The first movement, The Gentiles, introduces the pagan believers who will invoke the spirit of the flames. 

The second movement, Incantation, is the proper spell which invokes the fire. 

Finally, the third movement, Ignis Fatuus, represents the dance of the spirit of fire and the possession of the gentiles.
