Tríptico (“Triptych”) is a work in three movements for three percussionists. In concert, the movements can be performed as a whole, as if it were a suite, or as three separate pieces independently of each other. The original idea for the premiere was that each of these movements would serve as a prelude to three works by I. Xenakis. Thus, Prelude I would be followed by “Okho”, Prelude II by “Psappha”, and Prelude II by “Persephassa”.
The construction of the overall intervallic material is based on Xenakis’ own name, according to the G-Fsystem: xE (E) – nA (A) – kiS (Eb) E – A – Eb/D#.
