The work arose as a project of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla-La Mancha, to create a joint project entitled "Sound Spaces for Cervantes" which was premiered at the New Music Festival at the University of Lousville (Kentucky, USA). Several teachers from the school and several composers from the composition department took part in this project. It consists of several "Spaces" or movements on the work of Cervantes through his travels. "Cárcel.Grito" is based on Cervantes' Algerian period and is the prologue to the last movement entitled "Fado y quebranto" which is based on Cervantes' Portuguese period. "Fado y Quebranto" is written for 2 trumpets, clarinet, cello, percussion and electronics. "Cárcel.Grito" is written for two trumpets spatialised at two different ends of the hall. Both pieces can be performed together or individually.
The work was premiered at the New Music Festival 2017 in Louisville (Kentucky, USA) by Manuel Blanco (Trumpet soloist of the Orquesta Nacional de España) and José Antonio García Sevilla (Professor of Trumpet at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid) to whom it is dedicated.
