“Suite no.1” is a work originally written for a small orchestra in 2019. The compositional structures and styles used by Debussy and Ravel in some of their orchestral works are taken as a departure point.
The composition itself seeks to combine clarity with harmonic, melodic and timbral colour, helping to unite the work without detracting from the character of each movement. In this sense, while the intention has been to respect the suites’ constructive essence, the movements are not tonally organised along classical lines where they are mostly in the same key; rather the open strings have been used freely as a tonal approach: E – G – D – A (For the band version: E♭, G, E♭, A♭).
It is important to highlight the academic spirit whereby this work was conceived, in which it seeks to absorb and control new timbral, harmonic and phraseological possibilities in a clear, musically balanced way.
