Edición crítica de Andrés Valero Castells
This is the second of two symphonic works for a symphonic band written by Ramón Ramos Villanueva (1954–2012). It was commissioned by the town of Villamarxant’s Unió Artística Musical (UAM) band to compete in the 1995 Valencia International Band Competition, conducted by Julio Martínez García. It is inspired by Vicente Aleixandre’s poem of the same name.
Despite the care and attention with which Ramón wrote his music, it is inevitable that mistakes will occur in a handwritten symphonic score. In order to resolve these errors, and especially to help spread a deserving word regarding his music’s undeniable quality,Andres Valero-Castells chose to digitise the work by producing a critical edition, offered below. As well as correcting errata, most of which were confirmed by Ramón Ramos in 1998, certain decisions were made to update the score on details such as the arrangement and adding optional strings. Let us analyse the result of this process in detail.
