Suit about populaQuadern sonor d’una ciutat is a suite for wind band composed by Ferran Lluís Martínez i

Silvestre, dedicated to his band, the Societat Unió Artística Musical d’Ontinyent, on the occasion

of its 75th anniversary.

The work was conceived as a musical portrait of the collective imagination of Ontinyent,

particularly linked to the band tradition that has shaped the city’s cultural identity over time.

This “Sound Notebook” evokes not only the history of the band society itself, but also the

memory of its predecessor bands and the legacy passed down from generation to generation.

The suite is structured in three movements:

I. Carrer Major de la Vila

II. Mare, Visanteta es casa

III. Mare puge dalt

Each movement is based on thematic material drawn from traditional folk songs, reinterpreted

and integrated into a symphonic language for wind band. The work reflects the influence of

Valencian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, who have left a clear mark on the author’s
